Team Rocket (TR) has 83 cards; we price 79 of its 83 daily from completed TCGplayer sales (updated 2026-10-23). The most valuable pull right now is Dark Charizard Rare Holo at $373.18; the full Near Mint set index is $1,986.
Team Rocket overview
This Team Rocket card list is a working price reference rather than a checklist alone: every card we track sits in the table above with its current Near Mint value, its rarity, its collector number and its 30-day change. The set carries the code TR and was released on 2000-04-24 as part of the Base series. In the order the series has been released, it is the sixth expansion in our catalog of that series, arriving after Fossil and followed by Gym Heroes. That timing matters for prices, because each new expansion pulls collector attention and spending away from the one before it.
In size, the set runs to 83 cards. 82 of them make up the main numbered set, the cards printed with the 82 total in the corner, and the remaining 1 are numbered beyond that total. Those extra cards are what collectors usually call secret rares, and they are where nearly all of the money in the set sits. We currently price 79 of its 83 cards; when a card is missing from the table it is because there is not yet a reliable stream of completed sales to anchor its value, not because it does not exist. We would rather leave a gap than publish a number we cannot back up.
Top 10 most valuable cards
Ranked by current Near Mint market price. Sold count is completed sales in the last 30 days.

Most valuable Team Rocket cards right now
The most expensive card in the set is Dark Charizard Rare Holo (#4) at $373.18 Near Mint, followed by Dark Dragonite Rare Holo (#5) at $226.19. Only 27 of the 79 cards we price are worth ten dollars or more, and 4 clear one hundred dollars. The ten most valuable cards together add up to about $1,368.66, which is roughly 69% of the whole Near Mint set index. That concentration is typical of modern sets: a handful of secret rares carry the value, and the rest of the checklist trades as bulk.
Behind the top two, the next tier is Dark Blastoise Rare Holo at $214.16, Dark Raichu Rare Secret at $144.21, Dark Charizard Rare at $88.19, Dark Alakazam Rare Holo at $79.16. These cards are where the gap between a lucky pull and an ordinary pack shows up most clearly. If you are selling, the top-ten panel above is the shortlist worth checking first; if you are buying singles, it shows how much of the set's cost sits in just a few cards.
Volume matters as much as price. In this set, Meowth Common is the most heavily traded card on the page at 74 completed sales in 30 days, and Meowth and Slowpoke are the two easiest to sell, while the most valuable cards trade far less often. A price backed by heavy volume is a more dependable guide to what your copy will sell for than one built on a handful of sales.
Team Rocket rarity breakdown and what to chase
The main set is built from the usual tiers. By the set catalog, there are 24 Commons, 24 Uncommons and 17 Rares. Taken together that is the bulk of the checklist, and it is also the bulk of the cards that trade for small amounts: across the cards we price, 14 of 79 sit under one dollar and the median card is worth $6.45.
In plain terms, Illustration Rares are full-art versions of regular Pokemon with a different artist's take on the scene, Ultra Rares are full-art versions of ex cards and trainers, and Special Illustration Rares are the full-art pieces that usually feature the set's headline ex Pokemon and supporters in a more elaborate illustration. The Mega Hyper Rare is the top-numbered card in the set and sits at the very end of the checklist. For collectors, the practical chase is clear from the data: the Special Illustration Rares and Mega Hyper Rares account for most of the value, while Illustration Rares are the affordable way to own alternate art from this set.
Artists matter to many collectors when they decide which cards to chase. Among the most valuable cards in the set, Dark Charizard (Rare Holo) is illustrated by Ken Sugimori; Dark Dragonite (Rare Holo) is illustrated by Mitsuhiro Arita; Dark Blastoise (Rare Holo) is illustrated by Mitsuhiro Arita. Card pages list the artist for every card where the catalog provides it.
30-day price movers
Only cards from this set with at least 25 completed sales in 30 days are ranked here, so thin-price noise stays out. Change is Near Mint market index, 30 days.
Team Rocket price trends in the last 30 days
Among cards with at least 25 completed sales in the last 30 days, the biggest risers are Grimer at plus 85%, Eevee at plus 48% and Rattata at plus 22%. On the way down, Diglett is off 31%, Dark Electrode is off 29% and Abra is off 22%. The risers are low-priced cards where a move from a few cents to a few more cents shows up as a large percentage, so read them as a signal of demand for playable or collectible commons rather than as a big change in money terms.
New sets tend to follow a familiar path. In the first weeks after release, prices for the chase cards are set by a small number of early sales and can swing widely. As more product is opened, supply of every card grows, and prices for most secret rares drift down until they meet steady demand. The release of the next expansion, here Gym Heroes, often pulls attention away and softens prices further.
The movers panel above only ranks cards with at least 25 completed sales in 30 days, so thin-price noise stays out. Changes are measured on the Near Mint market index over 30 days and are updated with the rest of the page each day.

Prices are market references from completed sales, not offers. Condition moves the number sharply — see any card's page for per-condition values and 30 days of history.
Is Team Rocket worth collecting, and should you buy sealed or singles?
Whether the set is worth collecting depends on what you want from it. If you want the full checklist, the Near Mint set index of $1,986 is a useful reference for what one copy of every card we price would cost at today's market values, although buying everything individually rarely lands exactly on that number. If you only want the cards you love, singles let you skip the luck of opening packs entirely, and the price table shows the cost up front.
Opening sealed product is a different decision. We do not publish sealed prices or pull rates for this set or for Gym Heroes on this page, because we only report what we can measure from completed card sales. What the card data does show is that 14 of the 79 cards we price trade for under a dollar, so most pulls from any pack are worth very little on their own, and the value of opening rests on the small chance of hitting one of the top secret rares. People open packs for fun, for the chase and for building decks; if your goal is a specific card, buying that single is usually the more predictable route.
To complete the master set, collectors usually start with the main 82 cards, which are cheap and plentiful, then add the Illustration Rares and Ultra Rares, and leave the Special Illustration Rares and Mega Hyper Rares for last. Nothing on this page is financial advice, and past prices do not predict future ones. Card prices can fall as easily as they rise, especially for newer sets.

How we price Team Rocket cards
Every price on this page is the Near Mint market value for a single English card, built from completed TCGplayer sales. We rebuild the numbers daily, and the date in the facts box shows when this set last updated. We do not use asking prices or listings, so a number here reflects what copies have actually sold for, not what sellers hope to get.
The Near Mint set index is the sum of the Near Mint market values of every card we price in the set. It is a reference for the value of a complete collection in one condition tier, not an offer to buy or sell. Lightly played, moderately played and damaged copies sell for less, and each card page shows those condition values alongside 30 days of price history.
If you need a firm number for a high-value card, open its page and look at the recent sales behind the price. For more sets, see the links at the foot of this page, starting with Fossil Card List and Gym Heroes Card List.
